Home Remedies for Common Ailments

“Eat some chicken soup; it’ll get rid of that cold.” How many times have you heard your mother say this? Well, it turns out Mom was right! Studies have shown that while any hot liquid eases congestion, it’s chicken soup that works the best (it’s rich in protein and has immunity-boosting nutrients). Various foods (and some liquids) work as well as medicine in treating various health problems. And they offer an advantage over prescribed drugs: Besides being cheaper, there’s less risk of side effects.

1.STUFFY NOSE- Get a hot shower! Warm air and steam are two of the most excellent ways to cut the mucus and unclog your nasal passages. You can also SNIFF AN ONION; the aroma irritates the nasal passages, thus causing the nose to run, thus relieving stuffiness.

2. HEARTBURN- Drink 3-4 ounces of SKIM MILK. Milk momentarily neutralizes the backed-up stomach acid that causes a intense sensation (For those of you who aren’t used to cayenne pepper or hot sauce, take note of THIS if you decide to try THAT).

3. ACNE- Put an ICE CUBE on a blemish for one minute; it’ll help lessen inflammation. You can also do the same with a FRESH-CUT CLOVE OF GARLIC. The garlic has antiseptic properties that help clear up any infection.

4. URINARY TRACT INFECTIONS- Most of you probably already know that CRANBERRY JUICE cures bladder infections (You didn’t? Well, you do now!) , but BLUEBERRY JUICE can too. can either drink the juice from the containers of frozen or canned blueberries, extract juice from fresh blueberries (juicer or food processor), or buy a jar of blueberry juice.

5. A MILD FEVER-Prepare a pot of peppermint or cinnamon tea and sip it slowly. Either of these two types will arouse perspiration (which cools the body without interfering with the immune system) to bring the fever down.
